http://deadlists.com/deadlists/showresults.asp?KEY=4/24/72 Man, what a great show. Truckin’ out of the gate. Lots of good energy. Good Lovin’ another E72 masterpiece, goes all kinds of weird places, including a little ditty/ballad at some point, can’t remember if that’s while he’s repeating for what felt like minutes, almost to himself, one of the very sexually evocative lines…

4/16/72 impressed me, 4/17/72 impressed me even more. The Dark Star is one for the ages, saying like a hundred or two separate things, but totally hanging together. Caution is another killer version, not quite as pulse-racing raunchy as the earlier ones, but still quite explicit, Pigpen working all night long, the sun rising on…

  • Body … Bent and Broken

LN jg1994-09-10.jgb.all.aud-vasseur.23791.shn2flac Man, these late era shows are really changing my understanding of Old Garcia. I have been saying it in these recent posts: his lacks lung-power, his voice is weak, his muscles are atrophied and his wrists are sore. He is prone to forgetting lyrics. These physical limitations dictate his vocal and instrumental approaches.…

  • Northridge Acid Test

What is the state of our knowledge on February 1966 acid test at a Unitarian Church in Northridge, CA? I still show a gig 2/6/66 at “Northridge Unitarian Church”, no notes or references. And I also show a gig 2/19 at Valley Unitarian Universalist Church on 2/19. Maybe we have  been discussing somewhere? Seems like…

The 4/16/72 Good Lovin’ is another balls-out raunchfest, a killer, Pigalicious feature. http://bozosandbolos.blogspot.com/ http://deaddisc.com/disc/Europe_72_Box.htm

  • Johnny Too Bad

I cannot get this song out of my ear. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgkZwUDt98o The Slickers, “Johnny Too Bad” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Slickers. “The Slickers were a Jamaican rocksteady and reggae group in the late 1960s and early 1970s.” https://www.discogs.com/Slicker-The-Johnny-Too-Bad/master/630180 looks like first release was 1971 on Punch. One of the youtube versions is said 1970, but discogs 1971 as Panther P-01.…

  • E72, post 01

I have been listening to the integral E72, starting from 4/7 and working my way forward. Not obsessing about details, just listening while pedaling. Some random thoughts. 4/7 has a lot of bucking bronco energy, but lacks discipline. 4/8 so much more controlled and effective than the first night. What a great night of entertainment…
